Forms of Consumption

Flower

Cannabis in its original state. Flower is most often consumed by inhalation through a smoking apparatus, a joint, or a vaporizer. Cannabis flower may be also juiced, used in an herbal tea, or baked to release its THC.

Flower consumption is not very discreet and often leaves a strong smell behind. As with any form of smoke inhalation, there may be health risks associated with this consumption method.

Edibles

Manufactured edibles are a great alternative to cannabis inhalation. The effects of edibles are very different than smoking, and there are more variables to consider. In Massachusetts, adult-use compliant edibles are crafted to be 5mg THC per serving. Be aware that when eaten or swallowed, the effects of cannabis may be delayed by 1-4 hours. Cannabinoids are received by our bodies differently when ingested, and the high may be dependent on your metabolism as well as other factors.

Concentrates

Concentrates are highly potent compared to flower, and they can be consumed in a variety of ways.

Concentrate types include shatter, crumble, distillate, live resin, rosin, and hash, which all come from the cannabis plant, but are extracted differently to create a range of textures, tastes, and effects.

Vaping is an ideal method for those who want to consume cannabis discreetly, while dabbing is great for those seeking a strong, euphoric high.

When flower material is removed, there is little to no smell from the smoke.

Capsules

Also known as pills. Capsules contain oil and are swallowed and digested. As with edibles, capsules take longer to work than smoking or vaping cannabis. Results are typically felt within an hour.

Tinctures & Spray

Tincture is typically consumed by placing a dropper under the tongue, and holding the liquid there for one minute before swallowing.

Sprays are a form of tincture that is applied on the tongue via a sprayable bottle.

Topicals

Used to treat localized pain. Topicals are non-psychoactive and come in gels, creams, and ointments that are applied to the skin.

Patches

Patches are applied to the skin or to a veinous area of the body allowing cannabinoids to enter the bloodstream.

Is Your Cannabis Right For You?

Relax

Cannabis Indica, is often associated with relaxing or sleepy effects. It is worth noting that relaxation can be achieved with cannabis strains that do not have a sleepy side-effect or are not categorized as Indica. Cannabis and infused products with a robust cannabinoid content including CBD, CBG, and CBN, as well as average THC content often lend to relaxation among users.

Terpenes myrcene, humulene, terpinolene, linalool can add to the relaxing effects of cannabis so be on the hunt for strains that are sweet and skunky. Some aromas to keep a nose out for are grape, blueberry, citrus, roasted nuts, vanilla, or chocolate.
Move

Cannabinoids naturally enhance a healthy lifestyle. Endocannabinoids, made by our own bodies, are produced during exercise, which activates our endocannabinoid system. Ingesting cannabis may have particularly strong effects when used 15 minutes before or after engaging in physical activity.

Conventional wisdom relates cannabis use with high caloric intake and laziness, however recent studies suggest that cannabis users, both past and current, have lower BMI and waist circumference than non-users. Cannabis has shown potential to stimulate metabolism, and cannabis consumers frequently report that imbibing helps them get motivated.
Relief

ECS receptors called CB1 and CB2 are found in the bodies of mammals on the brain, organs, immune cells, and connective tissue. Recent studies suggest that a variety of physically and mentally painful illnesses may stem from a deficiency or over productivity of the endocannabinoids produced by our own bodies. Relief, much like other emotions or feelings, is subjective to us all, and so is your cannabis journey.

Cannabis strains that smell fresh, minty, cherry-like, spicy, or peppery, and strains that test high in the terpenes p-cymene, pinene, terpineol, linalool, and beta-caryophyllene may have extra relief and anti-inflammatory properties.
Create

CB1 receptors are concentrated in various parts of our brains. The cannabis stimulus on the brain can result in many effects: On the developing brain, serious memory loss or inability to focus may occur, while on the deteriorating or overstimulated brain, studies have found that memory and focus may even improve. Effects on the brain vary from strain to strain and person to person and there is a fine line between euphoria and anxiety for some folks. (Remember, the effects of cannabis will pass!)

Strains that may promote creative brain boosts will often be categorized as sativa or sativa-hybrid and have a terpene profile that represents limonene, pinene, humulene, and cafestol. Some scents to look for are strawberry, orange, lemon, citrus, coffee, and pine.
